Another satisfying victory capped off a winning weekend for the Wellington Dukes on Sunday.
Like on Friday versus the King Rebellion, the Dukes posted a 5-1 win against another OJHL Western Conference opponent, the Georgetown Raiders.
Wellington was strong defensively, holding the visiting club to just 16 shots, including one single chance in the second, to secure its 20th win of the year.
Jared McNeil and Ryan Schaap both went off the post and in with snappy wrist shots to help build a 2-0 lead for the Dukes in the first, but Owen Bruining answered back with a tip-in marker in the waning seconds of the period.
That goal did not go to the Raiders legs as anticipated in the second however, as the Dukes held them to just the one shot in the frame, but Christian Lynch was stellar in keeping his team within one until close to the end.
Logan Sitlani ripped a shot through traffic with a little more than a minute left in the period for his fourth of the year to increase the lead.
Zander Latreille drove the crease and stuck home a feed for his seventh of the year to extend the spread just 26 seconds into the third.
An additional marker from Kyle Kavc (third in three games) put Wellington firmly in the driver’s seat to take the game home.
Ryan Castle contributed three assists in the victory, Cole Ellis had two and McNeil and Latreille added assists for multi-point games, while Jacob Brown needed to make only 15 stops in net.
The Dukes turn around quickly to play the rival Cobourg Cougars on a quick drive down the 401 west on Monday at 7 o’clock.
