The Wellington Dukes came into this game ranked # 1 in the OJHL on the powerplay while the Missauga Chargers were ranked # 21 on the penalty kill. Throw in the fact that the Dukes are averaging just 8.7 PIM’s per game while the Chargers average 20.5 PIM’s it was no surprise the Dukes cashed in on 5 powerplay chances in their 6 to 2 win tonight in Mississauga.
Scoring was spread out with six different scorers for the visitors and 12 skaters picking up at least a point. Seventeen year old rookie defenseman Justin Bean scored his first Junior A goal which turned out to be the game winner and the only even strength goal by the Dukes. Trevor Cope, Parker Wood, Spencer Turcotte, Eric Delaurentis and Steven Deeg all scored with the man advantage. Newcomer Andrew McCann, in just his second game with the Dukes, had three assists while Luc Brown, Cody Gratton and Delaurentis each had a pair of helpers. Andrew Coupland, Mike Soucier and Kyle Paat also had assists. Adam Wood faced 22 shots while picking up his 1st road win of the season.
The Dukes will now have five days to prepare for a rare Friday road game as they travel to Toronto to take on the South Division first place St. Michaels Buzzers for their final regular season meeting between the two teams with a 7:30 PM puck drop.
