The Wellington Dukes have broken a six-game slide in convincing fashion, hammering the North York Rangers 8-1 on Tuesday.
Wellington exploded for four goals in the third to dispatch the lowly Rangers and secure their first win since Feb. 8.
The Dukes struck in quick succession with two shorthanded goals on the same penalty, 37 seconds apart in the early going from veterans Cory Jewitt and Zander Latreille to get the day off on the right foot.
Logan Sitlani’s sixth of the season and Ryan Schaap’s 29th sandwiched a Niko Economopoulos goal in the second to put the Dukes ahead 4-1 and they punctuated the victory with a dominant third period.
Jayden Levesque, Schaap, Jared McNeil and Jewitt all tallied in succession to put away the Rangers.
Latreille, Jewitt and Levesque all finished with three points and every player except three found the scoresheet in a balanced scoring effort.
Jacob Brown only needed to make 16 saves in improving the Dukes record to 31-19-0-4 and tie them in points with the Stouffville Spirit for fourth in the OJHL’s East Conference (Stouffville has a game in hand).
Wellington’s penultimate regular season game is a makeup contest with the Aurora Tigers on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
