The Wellington Dukes will look to move on quickly from a winless weekend.
The Dukes dropped a 5-2 decision in Toronto to the Jr. Canadiens on Sunday night for their third straight defeat.
Following tallies from Nathan Phillips and Evan Malkhassian, the Dukes got a response from Dimitri Tzaferis on a powerplay.
The Montreal native buried his fifth of the year on a set-up by Zander Latreille and Will Mitchell in the final 45 seconds of the first to draw the Dukes a little closer.
Wellington’s efforts to even the score were ultimately futile against some dangerous speed from the ‘JRCs’, and Toronto was able to extend its lead back to two 4:40 into the second on another powerplay marker.
Karafile and Will Gourgouvelis tacked on two more in the third, before Latreille quickly answered to complete a two point game.
The goal was the seventh of the season for the 19-year-old Windsor-born forward, assisted by Zach Carrier and Logan Goodwin.
The game got chippy towards the end and involved a fight between Carrier and Luka Graziano, but Toronto ultimately came away with the last laugh and two points in the bank.
Shane Shelest made 35 saves on 40 Jr. Canadiens shots as the Dukes fall to 18-13-0-2.
Next action is at home to the Pickering Panthers for the first time this season at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
