Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wellington Dukes defeated the Lindsay Muskies in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).
The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Lindsay got a shootout goal from Vince Herlihey. In addition to the clincher, Wellington got a shootout goal from Mike Soucier.
The Dukes overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wellington trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Muskies’ Stefan Von Egelbrechten at 5:36 in the third period. The Dukes tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Erick Delaurentis at 15:41 in the third period.
Wellington forced Lindsay goalie Branden Francey to work between the pipes, taking 62 shots.
Josh Supryka also scored for Wellington. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Kyle Paat and Steven Deeg, who each chipped in one.
Lindsay also got a goal from Jake Ryan as well. More assists for Lindsay came via Michael Spataro, Brock Spear, Austin Eastman, and Keegan Cairns, who contributed one a piece.
Tyson Teichmann rejected 25 shots on goal for the Dukes. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Branden Francey made 59 saves for the Muskies on 61 shots. Lindsay incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
