Fans of run-and-gun hockey would have loved watching this game but I don’t think either coaching staff were too thrilled. The Dukes led 2 to 0 after the first period but the Raiders exploded in the middle frame to take a 5 to 4 lead. Three unanswered goals by the visitors sealed the deal with the Dukes coming out on top 7 to 5.
First star of the game Andrew McCann led the way with 3 goals, including the game tieing goal and the game winner as well as an assist. Second star Mike Soucier scored the insurance goal and earned an assist on the powerplay. Trevor Cope had a pair of goals ( one on PP) with Spencer Turcotte adding a single. A number of Dukes defensemen got in on the scoring with Andrew Coupland and Jacob Heatherington picking up a pair of assists each while single helpers went to Kyle Paat and Trevor Abbot. Forward Abbott Girduckis also had a pair of assists, one on the GWG and the other on the insurance marker; Parker Wood also assisted on the GWG while Steven Deeg and Turcotte also setting up goals. Tyson Teichmann picked up his first win as a Duke facing 44 shots.
The Dukes will now prepare for a 3 games-in-3 days weekend with a visit to Lindsay on Friday to take on the Muskies at 7:30 PM.
