Story by Brock Ormond
The Wellington Dukes suffered a 5-2 setback at the hands of a team their battling with for seeding in the East Conference.
The St. Mike’s Buzzers got three unanswered goals and weathered the storm to take away two big points from the Dukes.
Brad Barker had his first goal as a Duke and fourth of the season almost halfway through to start things off from Josh Rumolo and Sacha Trudel almost halfway through the first before Brandon Cohen, David Elmy and Joseph Nikac strung together their tallies.
The Buzzers carried a 3-1 lead into the third, before Nick DiPaolo found the scoresheet with his ninth of the year just 36 seconds into the frame off a deflection from a Dimitri Tzaferis shot.
Will Mitchell was part of the setup as well, but Wellington was not about to get any closer the rest of the night.
Toby Adamson added an important insurance marker at 7:41, before Marco Iozzo iced it with an empty-netter.
Jacob Gorinsky (38 saves on 40 shots) outduelled Jack Lisson (34 saves on 38 shots between the pipes).
The Buzzers jump ahead with 67 points to Wellington’s 65 and sit all alone in second place in the OJHL’s East Conference.
The Dukes are off Saturday before a date with another team hot on their heels, the Markham Royals at 2:30 on Sunday at Lehigh Arena.
