A massive third period turned the tides for the Wellington Dukes against the King Rebellion on Friday night.
Four unanswered tallies propelled the Dukes to a 5-1 win at Lehigh Arena.
The two teams traded markers in the first, with Kyle Kavc ripping a wrist shot from the slot over King goalie Carter Bickle for his second goal in as many games and the former Brantford 99ers answering on a tip play by Aaron Andrade.
Dario Cantini and Bickle both slammed their respective doors shut in an even second period before Wellington erupted in the final stanza.
Sacha Trudel scored twice, including the eventual game-winner where he flicked a backhand shot through Bickle’s pads, to lead the attack.
Zach Mascard buried a feed from affiliated player Van Pereira (first OJHL point) at 13:53, then Ryan Schaap ripped home a shot off the crossbar and in behind Bickle to extend the lead, before Trudel finished off the surge.
Schaap and Kavc added an assist each for two points and Logan Sitlani, Jared McNeil and Zander Latreille each had two helpers.
Cory Jewitt’s assist on Schaap’s marker was his 100th OJHL point.
Cantini followed up his shutout on Wednesday with a 32-save performance to help Wellington improve to 19-10 and a third place tie in the East Conference.
The Dukes are home to the Georgetown Raiders at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, looking to carry some momentum into December.
