The Wellington Dukes are owners of a five-game winning streak after a 7-1 trouncing of the Aurora Tigers on Saturday night.

The Dukes notched two quick goals in a little more than a minute from Dimitri Tzaferis (on the powerplay) and Cory Jewitt around the mid-mark of the first period to get the offence rolling and never really looked back.

Though Frank Castiglione did draw Aurora back within one before the end of the first on a powerplay marker, Tzaferis answered it back on the Dukes own man advantage, snapping a wrister through Yianni Karkoulas at 8:45 of the middle frame to re-extend the Dukes lead.

Wellington continued to make Aurora pay for undisciplined play, as Connor Loerzel grabbed ahold of the puck and ripped a shot off the left wing to beat Karkoulas for his third of the year and Wellington’s third goal while a man up in the game.

The Dukes added three more unanswered third period markers from Zander Latreille, Connor Hunt and Ryan Schaap to rub salt in Aurora’s wound.

Tzaferis ended up with a three-point game, while Jewitt, Hunt and Schaap all registered two points each.

Nick DiPaolo, Austin Montgomery-Parsons, Logan Sitlani and Pana Efraimdis all notched two assists and Shane Shelest rebounded from being pulled on Friday night with 16 saves and the win.

The Dukes are now a full 10 games over .500 at 23-13-0-2 and finish off their pre-Christmas slate with a massive rivalry matchup with the Trenton Golden Hawks at 2:30 on Sunday at Lehigh Arena.

Trenton is 1-0 in the Battle of Quinte this season after a 6-2 triumph back on Sept. 27.
