A hungry Pickering Panthers team helped their cause of securing a Buckland Cup Playoff spot at the expense of the Wellington Dukes on Sunday.
Pickering edged Wellington 3-2 to go five points up on the Lindsay Muskies for eighth place in the OJHL’s East Conference.
Charlie Key put a shot past Jacob Brown for the only goal of the first period, before Cory Jewitt knotted things up in the second period with his 23rd of the season from Sacha Trudel and Riley Noble.
Blake Wright struck less than three minutes into the third to put Pickering ahead again, before the Panthers took advantage of a late period penalty to extend the lead via Andre Mondoux.
Ryan Schaap got the Dukes back within a goal with an extra attacker on the ice with assistance from Trudel and Carson Littlejohn, but Pickering hung on to secure a clutch victory.
The Dukes fall to 30-15-0-3 on the season and remain five points ahead of the Stouffville Spirit for fourth in the East Conference.
Next on the schedule is a Tuesday afternoon makeup game at 2 p.m. versus the Milton Menace.
