DUKES OPEN PRESEASON WITH NARROW LOSS IN COBOURG

Story by Brock Ormond

The first preseason game of the 2022-23 OJHL season had some dramatics in the late stages, but the Wellington Dukes came out on the losing end.

After newcomer Zander Latreille tied the game with one second left on the clock in the third period, Parker Hendsbee buried the overtime winner under two minutes into the extra frame for a 5-4 Cobourg Cougars victory on Monday night.

Toronto native Edward Moskowitz had a big game with two goals and an assist in the losing cause, while returning forward Corbin Roach chipped in with a pair of helpers.

Ex-Niagara Falls Canuck Ethan Walker had the other Dukes goal and Quinte Red Devils defenceman Jared Wooley picked up the other assist.

Ethan Morrow (12 saves on 14 shots) and prospect Nolan Lane (15 saves on 18 shots) split the net in the game.

The two teams will have a rematch on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lehigh Arena. Prior to the contest, fans are encouraged to come out and take part in a fan appreciation BBQ to support the team.
