There were chances aplenty for the Wellington Dukes on Wednesday, just not many results.

A late-first period goal from Luke Lapalm was all the Dukes could manage on 43 shots against St. Michael’s Buzzers goalie Jacob Gorinsky in a 3-1 loss at the OJHL Governor’s Showcase in Cobourg.

The Stirling-Rawdon native popped in his second of the season on a setup by Ryan Smith and David Campbell with exactly one-minute to go in the opening frame.

Gorinsky was spectacular from that point on, turning aside several Wellington drives and allowing his team to produce three unanswered goals.

Bryce Sutherland tied the score late in the second stanza, before Nathan Degazio potted the winner at the 8:28 juncture of the third.

Giacomo Martino iced the Buzzers’ first win of the 2022-23 season with an empty-net goal.

Ethan Morrow stopped 24 of 26 in the defeat, as the Dukes fall to 3-2 on the season with a split of their two showcase matchups.

Wellington won’t have much time to wait for revenge, as they host the Buzzers on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
