For the second time in as many games, the Wellington Dukes needed to come back from multiple goals down just to earn a point in a double overtime loss.
This time, the Lindsay Muskies victimized the Dukes on a Cole MacLean overtime winner, with the ‘fish’ pulling out a 5-4 victory.
The Dukes had another rough first period, getting beat four times on goals from Maxwell Howlett, Colton Bain, Nole Faulkner and Ajay Rai before the frame ended.
Showing great resiliency and timely new offence, the Dukes got a natural hat trick in the second from Liam Campbell, just recently acquired from the GOHL’s Chatham Maroons and the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit.
The Quinte Red Devils graduate is a second-generation Duke, with father David playing for the team from 1996 to 1999.
Cole Ellis cut loose to bury his fourth of the year for the equalizer with 6:13 left in regulation on a setup by Ethan Murray and Zack Carrier to give the Dukes one point.
MacLean though, dashed Wellington’s hopes for a win with his first of the year at 3:51 to give Lindsay two big points.
The shots were dead even at 32, with Royden Smith and Colby Booth-Housego splitting the net for Wellington with 27 combined saves.
The Dukes have lost four in a row and will try to snap out of their funk on Sunday at home versus the Aurora Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
