The Ontario Junior Hockey League’s best rivalry is going to honour the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment. The 3rd Annual Hasty Ps Cup will begin Friday October 21st, when the Wellington Dukes host the Trenton Golden Hawks at Lehigh Arena in The County.
The Hasty Ps Cup was named in honour of the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment, the most decorated Canadian infantry unit in World War 2.
Wellington Dukes Head Coach Derek Smith says, “Playing for a trophy named after the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment is not something our players take lightly. On the ice, Trenton and Wellington are great rivals, but the Hasty Ps Cup is bigger than that. We cannot wait to get going.”
This is the 3rd year playing for the Hasty Ps Cup. In 2020, both teams were looking for a way to play through the pandemic,” says Trenton Director of Operations John McDonald. “The Hasty Ps Cup offered an opportunity for our young men to safely navigate through the pandemic, while honouring our brave women and men of our regiment here in Hastings and Prince Edward.
The last two years it was a points based best of 8 series. With the OJHL allowing all teams to play each other, it means fewer head-to-head matches.
